CHRIS COSGROVE III

CHRIS TRULY CARED FOR HIS WOUNDED MARINES AND THEIR FAMILIES.

Chris was an active member of the Slattery Detachment of the Marine Corps League before he was called up to active duty and deployed to Iraq. He made two visits to the wounded warriors at the National Navy Medical Center at Bethesda, MD on Sept 28 and Oct. 26 of 2005. He, along with other members of the Detachment, first started making monthly visits to the wounded in June 2005. Chris was so moved by these visits with his brother Marines who had been wounded that after the October visit, he contacted a reporter for Leatherneck Magazine asking her to do a story on the Marines at Bethesda. fortunately, they did do the article. In May of 2006 while deployed in Iraq, we received an email from Chris stating “I appreciate you thinking of us here in Iraq, but the guys back at Bethesda need you more than we do. We are the ones still here, healthy. The ones there are the ones that are sick and need your help more.”

Chris Cosgrove was a member of the reserve unit, Golf Company, 2 Battalion, 25 Marines, stationed at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ. He was serving with Charlie Company, 1 Battalion, 25 Marines from Connecticut when they deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in 2006. On October 1st, 2006 Chris was killed by a suicide car bomber at an entry control point in Fallujah. Chris was less than one week away from leaving Iraq to begin his journey home. Chris lived with his Mom, Charlene, and Stepfather, Art, in the Cedar Knolls section of Hanover Twp. NJ.
